Safe Church Ministry is hosting a Grand Rapids area Advisory Panel Process Training. This specialized training will prepare trainees to respond with compassion and justice when an allegation of abuse is made against a church leader.

WHEN: Saturday, October 19th. Doors open at 8:45am, training will begin at 9am, lunch at noon, and concluding at around 3:30pm.

WHAT: To learn more about the Advisory Panel Process (APP) you can view a snapshot of its description and when it is put into practice by viewing this link.

Lunch will be provided, compliments of Classis Muskegon Safe Church Team.

The facilitators of the training will be Pat Scheffers and Lois Hecksel - who both have many years of panel experience.

What is the APP?

One of the mandates of the classis safe church team (SCT) is to provide an Advisory Panel Process when allegations of abuse are brought by an adult against a church leader. The process is to be followed when: a. the claimant is a legal adult (there is no statute of limitations in this ecclesiastical process, so alleged abuse may have taken place when claimant was a child or adolescent) b. the alleged abuse is physical or sexual in nature, and involves a CRC church leader (we may also discuss how emotional abuse may fit into this process - which is a new adopted motion of Synod 2019 (3.F.1 viewable here)
